With the weather turning colder, now is the time you should insulate any outdoor taps.

If you have a stopcock and can isolate the supply then turn off the stopcock and open the tap to drain this way there is no water in the pipe or tap to freeze.

If you cannot isolate the water supply via a stopcock, there are many commercial gadgets available.

These range from little insulated jackets to wall mounted boxes, you can also buy slip on covers for the pipes.

Another cheap but effective alternative is to lag or wrap the tap with bubble wrap or rags, a plastic drink bottle can then be cut and pushed down over the tap.

Which ever method you choose should help prevent the freezing of your outdoor tap. If possible you should also remember to drain/insulate any water features in your garden .
